Creating visual representations for organizations with a lean process

Tokyo Engineering

The Google Tokyo Engineering organization was looking to refresh their existing logo to celebrate the coming together of the community.

The design was intended to merge the notion of “Tokyo” and “coding” into one visual representation, The Kanji (Japanese character) of Tokyo, 東京, was used as the base. The symbol of coding, < / >, was inserted to blend into the design. The logo could also be read as I/O, which represents “input and output”, a term that’s used to name Google’s product release conferences.

Admiral

A Google internal Sales team was planning to launch a new leadership development program called Admiral, and was in need to have a logo design that could be used on the program’s website, as well as other communication channels.

The name ‘Admiral’ comes from the highest ranking officer in the navy, and the program predominantly targets teams in SEAS (South East Asia). Thus, the concept focused on a symbol with a combination of “navy”, “sea”, and a sense of growth.

Tech X

Tech X was a newly formed recruiting team at Google that focuses on hiring tech talents. The top values include cross-functional collaboration, open communication, and optimistic attitude. The team was looking for a visual identity to celebrate the new team name.

I explored a range of design options via sketches and vectorized concepts. The final design was chosen by the team members, featuring a knot resembling an X.
